German airline LEAV Aviation has launched scheduled direct flights between Germany and Syria as of July 29. The inaugural Düsseldorf-Damascus service marks the return of scheduled nonstop flights between the two countries after more than a decade.
The airline will initially operate the Düsseldorf-Damascus route twice weekly using Airbus A320 aircraft. LEAV Aviation also plans to launch Cologne-Aleppo flights starting August 1.
The resumption of direct scheduled flights follows the bilateral air services agreement signed between Germany and Syria earlier this month. The agreement established the legal framework covering traffic rights, operating licenses, safety requirements, and other operational regulations.
Meanwhile, German carrier Sundair is also set to launch scheduled Berlin-Damascus flights on August 1, followed by Berlin-Aleppo services on October 1.
