NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman Responds to Learjet 60 Crash

Following the Learjet 60 crash in Florida, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman responded on social media to comments about the pilots and the causes of the accident.

Stating that he has more than 20 years of flying experience and over 8,000 hours of flight time, Isaacman said he found the criticism of the second-in-command’s (SIC) final radio transmissions unfair. He stressed that the SIC continued to carry out their duties and maintain communication with air traffic control under extremely difficult conditions.

Isaacman noted that there is not yet any definitive information about the aircraft’s maintenance history or possible factors such as a structural failure, turbulence, or excessive speed, and said that comments on the cause of the crash amount to speculation.

Reminding that it is common in the charter industry for less experienced pilots to fly alongside experienced captains once they have completed the required training and qualifications, Isaacman called on people to wait for the results of the investigation and to show respect for the families of those who lost their lives.
