France Takes Delivery of Its First NH90 Standard 2

Airbus Helicopters has delivered the first NH90 Standard 2 helicopter, developed for special forces operations, to the French Armament General Directorate.

France has ordered 18 helicopters, with deliveries expected to be completed by mid-2029. The aircraft will be operated by the French Army Aviation’s special forces unit based in Pau.

The NH90 Standard 2 is equipped with the Safran Euroflir 410D electro-optical system, a new digital mapping system, a mission station for a third crew member and enlarged rear windows designed to support the use of defensive weapons. The platform has also been prepared for the integration of a Direct Aperture System to improve situational awareness in low-visibility conditions.

Spain also placed an order in December 2025 for 31 NH90 helicopters in a similar configuration.
