Alaska Airlines to Launch Anchorage–Tokyo Flights with Boeing 737 MAX 8

Alaska Airlines has announced plans to launch nonstop flights between Anchorage and Tokyo, Japan, starting in spring 2027.
According to the airline, the seasonal service between Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Tokyo Narita International Airport will be operated using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The new route will mark Alaska Airlines’ first nonstop connection between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita, providing passengers with access to Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
During the Cold War, Anchorage served as a major refueling stop for long-haul flights between Europe and Japan, as airlines were unable to use Soviet airspace. However, advances in aviation technology and changes in flight routes gradually reduced the city’s importance as a refueling hub.
The approximately 5,500-kilometer route will offer various onboard services and amenities for passengers traveling in First Class, Premium Class, and Main Cabin.
