The Boeing 777 Freighter has surpassed the 747 freighter fleet in the number of aircraft in active service, becoming the world’s most widely operated widebody cargo aircraft. With more than 330 Boeing 777Fs now in service, the milestone marks a significant shift in long-haul air cargo transportation.
According to Boeing, recent deliveries have pushed the active 777F fleet beyond the total number of 747 freighters currently in service across all variants. As a result, the iconic Boeing 747, which has long been a symbol of global air cargo transportation, has handed over its leadership in fleet size to the 777F.
This development highlights the growing importance of twin-engine aircraft in long-haul cargo operations. Fuel efficiency, payload capacity, and high aircraft utilization remain key factors influencing airlines’ fleet decisions.
