Spirit Airlines is holding talks with alternative investment firm Castlelake as part of its ongoing bankruptcy process. According to CNBC, the discussions are still at an early stage, and any potential deal would be subject to approval by the company’s bondholders. Neither Spirit Airlines nor Castlelake has made an official statement on the matter.
In recent years, Spirit had attempted to merge with Frontier Airlines, but those efforts once again ended without success. After rejecting Frontier’s latest $2.1 billion offer, Spirit continues to evaluate different options within the scope of its bankruptcy proceedings.
It is reported that the talks are focused on restructuring Spirit’s financial obligations while preserving its current corporate structure. Such an investor-led solution could allow the company to continue its operations, with more clarity on the process expected in the coming period.
