Germany Will Not Block Eurofighter Sale – Türkiye Continues Negotiations with Qatar and Oman

Airbus Defence and Space CEO Michael Schoellhorn stated that Germany will not oppose the sale of Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Türkiye, expressing support for Türkiye’s potential inclusion in the Eurofighter program.
Schoellhorn said:
“We hope for long-term cooperation with Türkiye joining the Eurofighter family. The German government has made it clear that they support the idea of selling Eurofighters to Türkiye. I think this topic is now settled. If Türkiye joins the Eurofighter club, it will take part in user groups that foster knowledge sharing and faster learning. This is not just about purchasing an aircraft — it’s about establishing a strategic partnership.”
Türkiye continues negotiations to acquire second-hand Eurofighter Typhoons to strengthen its Air Force fleet until its indigenous fighter jet KAAN becomes operational. Ankara is in talks with Qatar for 12 Typhoon T3 aircraft and Oman for another 12 T3 units.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also confirmed direct talks on the matter, saying:
“We are currently negotiating with two countries regarding Eurofighter procurement — Qatar and Oman. I have personally held discussions, and both our Defense and Foreign Ministers have also engaged in talks. We aim to conclude these swiftly to further strengthen our Air Force.”
According to reports, negotiations are progressing positively. The introduction of a Eurofighter T3 fleet would serve as a transitional capability boost, bridging the gap until the KAAN enters active service. Türkiye’s participation would also involve joint training, maintenance, and modernization cooperation with other Eurofighter user nations.
The Eurofighter Typhoon, known for its advanced radar systems, multi-role versatility, and high maneuverability, stands among Europe’s premier fighter aircraft platforms. Türkiye’s inclusion would enhance both defense industry collaboration and strategic technological ties with Europe.
