Qatar’s Boeing 747-8 Gift Officially Accepted by the Pentagon

The United States Department of Defense has officially added a Boeing 747-8 aircraft, donated by the Qatari Royal Family, to its inventory. The private jet, estimated to be worth $400 million, is set to be used temporarily as Air Force One by President Donald Trump.
The Pentagon stated that the acceptance process was completed in accordance with federal regulations and that the aircraft would undergo necessary modifications for safe operations. However, the development has sparked controversy under the U.S. Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause, which prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments without congressional approval.
President Trump defended the move, saying it would save taxpayers money and that the aircraft would eventually be donated to his presidential library. Experts, however, estimate that the modifications required to bring the jet up to Air Force One standards could cost over $1 billion and take years to complete.
The aircraft previously served as the official plane of the Emir of Qatar and was outfitted by the French luxury design firm Cabinet Alberto Pinto. Featuring a bedroom, private bathrooms, offices, a dining hall, and even a children’s play area, the aircraft is considered a palace in the sky.
