Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is reportedly preparing to order around 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners for Malaysia Airlines. According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, the first aircraft could be delivered from 2031 if the agreement is finalised.
Boeing is reportedly leading the discussions due to its ability to offer earlier delivery slots than Airbus, while GE Aerospace is said to have offered more favourable engine terms than Rolls-Royce. The new 787-10s are expected to replace seven leased Airbus A350s in the Malaysia Airlines fleet while providing additional capacity for long-haul operations.
If the deal is finalised, Boeing would return to Malaysia Airlines’ long-haul fleet following the retirement of its 777s in 2016. Neither MAG nor Boeing has officially announced the potential order.
