Ground Handling Employee Assaulted at Berlin Brandenburg Airport
On the evening of September 6 at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, a passenger who was believed to be intoxicated and was denied boarding assaulted a ground handling employee working at the gate. Newly released footage shows the attacker repeatedly punching the employee and continuing the assault despite the employee’s attempts to move away.
Around 15 seconds after the first blow, passengers tried to intervene, while the attacker’s companion reportedly attempted to prevent both the employee’s colleague and other passengers from stepping in. About two minutes into the incident, the attacker was seen kicking the employee after he had fallen to the ground. By the end of the 2-minute-55-second footage, passengers were still trying to restrain the attacker.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport management said Federal Police and airport security teams arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted and that the attacker was taken into custody. The employee suffered multiple fractures, including a fractured cheekbone, but reportedly did not lose his eyesight and remains under medical treatment.
