United Airlines Introduces Economy Seating Without a Middle Seat

United Airlines is preparing to introduce a new paid seating option designed to give passengers more personal space during their flight.
On its Airbus A321XLR aircraft, the airline will block the sale of the middle seat in a dedicated row. A shared table will be installed over the unused middle seat for passengers seated in the window and aisle seats.
The new seats, located in an extra-legroom section of the cabin, are expected to go on sale later in 2026. United has not yet announced pricing for the new product.
The airline said the concept will debut on its Airbus A321XLR fleet and could later be expanded to other aircraft types.
Earlier this year, United also unveiled its new “Relax Row” concept, allowing three economy-class seats on selected widebody aircraft to be converted into a bed.
