Iran Reimposes Strict Control in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has announced the re-tightening of transit controls in the Strait of Hormuz. The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces stated that the move comes in response to what it described as continued U.S. restrictions on maritime transit.
Just a day earlier, on April 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had announced via social media that commercial vessels would be allowed to pass through the strait in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon.
In its latest statement, the headquarters noted that Iran had permitted the controlled passage of a limited number of civilian vessels as a goodwill gesture following recent negotiations. However, it claimed that the United States had failed to uphold its commitments and continued to impose restrictions on shipping.
As a result, transit through the Strait of Hormuz is now subject to strict control by Iranian Armed Forces. Authorities emphasized that enhanced monitoring will remain in place until full freedom of navigation is ensured for vessels entering and departing Iran.
