Airbus A340 Converted into Science Center Caught Fire

An Airbus A340 being used as an Aviation Science Center caught fire in Çayırova, Kocaeli. The fire broke out at around 3:00 PM local time at the facility in Şekerpınar Neighborhood, with flames engulfing a large portion of the aircraft’s fuselage.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Following emergency calls, numerous fire and police crews were dispatched to the scene, and firefighting operations are ongoing.

The Airbus A340, which had been transformed into a science center, was transported to Çayırova in 2018 in separate sections using 15 trucks before being reassembled. Measuring approximately 65 meters in length with a 60-meter wingspan, the aircraft has since been used for aviation education programs and public events.
