American Airlines has issued a clear statement denying speculation about a potential merger with United Airlines.
The airline stated that it is not involved in any merger discussions and has no interest in pursuing such a process. It emphasized that a potential merger with United Airlines could weaken competition and lead to negative outcomes for consumers.
The statement follows recent reports suggesting that United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby raised the idea of a merger during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in February. The proposed deal was seen as one that could create one of the largest airlines in the world.
While acknowledging that certain structural changes in the industry may be necessary, American Airlines noted that such a merger would not align with competition law principles or the current approach of U.S. authorities toward the aviation sector.
The company added that it will continue focusing on its long-term strategic goals and strengthening its operational performance, while maintaining cooperation with public authorities in support of the broader development of the aviation industry.
