Nigeria Urges Airlines Not to Suspend Flights

Following a sharp increase in jet fuel prices in Nigeria, the government has stepped in after airlines threatened to halt operations. The country’s aviation minister called on local carriers not to suspend flights or raise ticket prices.

In a letter dated April 16 and addressed to the Airline Operators of Nigeria, the minister acknowledged the pressure created by rising jet fuel costs on airlines, while urging restraint to prevent broader economic disruption.

The minister stated that the government is in contact with the industry and announced that an emergency meeting will be held in Abuja on April 22 with regulators and sector stakeholders. The meeting aims to find a prompt and sustainable solution to the crisis.
