Spirit Airlines Seeks U.S. Government Funding Amid Liquidation Risk

Spirit Airlines has reportedly requested emergency financial support from the U.S. government as rising fuel costs and financial pressures threaten its recovery process.

According to sources cited by The Air Current, the airline is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to avoid a potential liquidation or bankruptcy scenario.

Reports indicate that executives from several low-cost carriers are expected to meet with U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in the coming days. The meeting, requested by the Department of Transportation, is aimed at assessing the financial condition of smaller airlines.

The Association of Value Airlines, which represents carriers such as Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, Sun Country Airlines, and Avelo Airlines, declined to comment on the matter.

U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Nate Sizemore also declined to confirm whether an official application had been submitted. No formal statement has been issued by either Spirit Airlines or the White House.
