Air Force One May Have Completed Its Final Mission After 35 Years of Service

U.S. President Donald Trump’s trip to the G7 Summit in France may have marked the final flight of the Boeing VC-25A Air Force One aircraft, which has served for more than 35 years.

The aircraft entered service in 1990 and has flown every U.S. president from George H.W. Bush to Donald Trump. Based on the Boeing 747-200 platform and extensively modified for presidential transport, the VC-25A has become one of the most recognizable government aircraft in the world.

A social media post shared by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino following the aircraft’s return from the G7 Summit further fueled speculation that the VC-25A may have completed its final mission. Scavino wrote, “I have been fortunate to fly around the world on this iconic plane for 5½ years of the 35 years it has been serving U.S. Presidents. Thank you, Air Force One.” However, no official announcement has yet been made regarding the aircraft’s retirement.

The current fleet will be replaced by the new VC-25B aircraft based on the Boeing 747-8 platform. The first aircraft, acquired from the Qatar Amiri Flight and designated the “VC-25B Bridge,” is expected to enter service next month.
