The Colombian Aerospace Force becomes the 13th global operator of the multi-mission transport aircraft following a formal agreement with Embraer.
BOGOTÁ, Colombia — Embraer has officially announced a new contract with the Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC) for the acquisition of two KC-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft. The agreement marks a major milestone in Colombia’s defense modernization strategy, significantly enhancing the nation’s cargo transport and air-to-air refueling capacities.
The contract encompasses comprehensive operational support, specialized mission equipment, integrated logistics, and an offset program structured to align with Colombia’s national regulatory standards.
Designed to support a broad spectrum of defense and civil operations, the KC-390 fleet will perform tactical transport, personnel and equipment airdrops, disaster relief, medical evacuation, and aerial refueling. The aircraft will also feature advanced system connectivity to ensure seamless operational interoperability alongside Colombia’s newly integrated Gripen fighter fleet.

Next-Generation Fleet Modernization
Built on modern 21st-century aerospace architecture, the KC-390 Millennium offers superior payload capacity (up to 26 tons), higher speed (470 knots), and extended range compared to traditional medium-class military transports. Equipped with flexible air-to-air refueling systems, the aircraft can quickly transition between tanker and receiver roles.
With this acquisition, Colombia joins Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, South Korea, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Slovakia, and Lithuania in choosing the multi-role platform for modern airlift requirements.
