Amsterdam Bans Cheap Flight and Burger Advertising

As of May 1, Amsterdam has begun removing advertisements for flights, burgers and other high-emission products from municipally controlled public advertising spaces across the city.

The measure covers bus and tram stops, metro stations and outdoor billboard locations. Promotions for cheap flights, cruise travel, petrol and diesel cars, as well as meat products, are all included in the scope of the new restrictions.

➡️ The move is aimed at aligning Amsterdam’s public advertising policy with the city’s broader climate targets. While pursuing lower-emission goals, the city administration is also seeking to limit the promotion of consumption patterns associated with a high carbon footprint in public spaces. The restrictions do not apply to private shop windows or digital platforms.
