Riyadh Air’s One-Month-Old Dreamliner Returns to Riyadh After Take-Off
A one-month-old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner belonging to Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s newest carrier, made an air turn back shortly after take-off on the Riyadh–Jeddah service and landed back at its departure airport.
Operating as flight RX27 from King Khalid International Airport (RUH) to Jeddah on August 10, the Dreamliner remained in a holding pattern over the Riyadh area for a period before returning to the airport it had departed from.
The aircraft involved, a Boeing 787-9 registered HZ-RXAF, joined the Riyadh Air fleet on July 3, 2026, and is among the carrier’s most recent deliveries.
Following the return, the service was operated by another Riyadh Air Boeing 787, registered HZ-RXAB.
The airline has issued no official statement regarding the reason for the air turn back. While the flight profile appears consistent with a technical or operational issue, it is considered premature to draw any definitive conclusion without an official statement.
