Government Shutdown Begins in the U.S. | Flights May Be Affected
As the legal authorization for the federal budget has expired, the U.S. federal government will partially shut down at midnight if no agreement is reached in Congress. This process is called a “government shutdown” in the U.S. and means that federal agencies without approved funding either halt operations or continue with only essential staff.
➡️ During a shutdown, services deemed essential continue, but many federal employees are furloughed. This can create indirect impacts, especially in civil aviation. Although air traffic services and security screening are classified as critical, previous shutdowns have shown that staff shortages can lead to delays.
For this reason, delays, increased congestion, and operational disruptions are considered possible on flights departing from or arriving in the U.S. In particular, at major airports there is a risk of slower air traffic flow and longer security screening times.
