T-Mobile Ends Free Inflight Wi-Fi Access on Select U.S. Carriers

T-Mobile has discontinued its complimentary inflight Wi-Fi offering for passengers traveling on American Airlines and United Airlines, effective mid-April 2026. The change affects flights where customers previously accessed onboard internet at no additional cost through T-Mobile’s partnership program.

Under the updated policy, passengers on these airlines are now required to pay for Wi-Fi access, with pricing typically ranging between $8 and $10 per session. On United flights, MileagePlus members are charged $8, while non-members pay $10 on aircraft not equipped with newer satellite systems such as Starlink. Aircraft using older connectivity providers, including Viasat and Panasonic, are expected to maintain paid access through at least the end of 2027.

American Airlines continues to offer limited complimentary Wi-Fi on certain domestic narrowbody flights for AAdvantage members. However, free access is not consistently available on long-haul international routes.

Other major U.S. carriers, including Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Southwest Airlines, continue to support T-Mobile’s inflight connectivity benefits at the time of writing.

No official statement has detailed the long-term strategy behind the change, but it reflects ongoing shifts in airline connectivity partnerships and onboard service models.
