Southwest Airlines reported record revenue of $8.4 billion for the second quarter of 2026. The U.S. carrier’s revenue increased by 16.4% year on year, while net profit reached $233 million.
To offset rising fuel costs, Southwest increased ticket prices and introduced new baggage fees. The airline’s fuel expenses rose by approximately $889 million, while higher fares and additional charges helped ease the cost pressure.
Over the past two years, Southwest has revised some of its long-standing policies, including free checked baggage and open seating, as it focuses on new products and services to boost revenue. The airline also plans to expand its long-haul international network to between eight and 12 high-demand destinations.
