London Gatwick Traffic Disrupted as Multiple Flights Squawk 7700

British Airways flight #BA2673 from Palma de Mallorca to London Gatwick, operated by BA Euroflyer using G-GATS, an Airbus A320, was met by emergency response teams shortly after landing for reasons that have not yet been officially disclosed.

The incident led to the temporary closure of Gatwick Airport’s runway, causing significant disruption across the London airspace.

➡️ With the runway unavailable, several Gatwick-bound aircraft entered holding patterns. As delays continued and fuel reserves became critical, some flights squawked 7700, while others diverted to alternative airports in and around London.

ℹ️ What does squawk 7700 mean?

⚠️🔺Important information: Squawk 7700 does not indicate the severity or exact nature of an emergency. It signals to air traffic controllers that an abnormal or emergency situation exists. The code allows controllers to identify the aircraft immediately, provide priority handling and coordinate any assistance that may be required.
