The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a $255,000 civil penalty against American Airlines over alleged violations of drug and alcohol testing regulations.
According to the FAA’s claim, between May 2019 and December 2023, the airline allegedly allowed 12 flight attendants who had tested positive for drugs and alcohol to return to safety-sensitive duties before completing all required follow-up testing. The employees reportedly tested positive for substances including alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine.
The FAA stated that following the issuance of the enforcement letter, Federal Aviation Administration has given American Airlines 30 days to respond to the agency.
