Air Astana Reports Improvement in PW1100G Engine Issues

Kazakhstan-based has reported improvements regarding the PW1100G engines used on its Airbus A320neo family aircraft.
According to the airline’s first-quarter figures, only two unscheduled engine removals linked to design-related issues were recorded, compared to 22 throughout the whole of 2025.
To reduce aircraft downtime, the company secured six spare engines during the first quarter. During the same period, 15 engine replacements were carried out at the airline’s technical center in Astana.
Air Astana noted that the manufacturing-related issues, ongoing since 2023, will take time to fully resolve, with average repair cycles lasting around 18 months. However, maintenance capacity has improved, and newly delivered A320neo aircraft are reportedly not affected by the issue.
The airline currently operates 40 A320/A321neo aircraft alongside 19 previous-generation aircraft, with three additional aircraft expected to join the fleet this year.
