Super Typhoon Bavi Strikes China, Flights Cancelled in Taiwan

Super Typhoon Bavi has disrupted air travel across Taiwan, with international flights cancelled at the island’s major airports. In China, the primary threat has shifted to severe flooding as the storm moves further inland. Authorities said more than one million people were evacuated to safer areas before and during the typhoon.

According to meteorological data, Bavi reached peak intensity five separate times during its life cycle. With maximum sustained winds of up to 290 km/h and a central pressure of around 900 millibars, the storm intensified to a Category 5 typhoon, making it one of the most powerful tropical systems in recent years.

As a result of the storm, all international arrivals and departures at Taipei Songshan, Taiwan Taoyuan International, and Kaohsiung International airports were cancelled on Saturday. At Taichung International Airport, only five flights were able to operate.
