Dangerous Close Encounter Between Two Aircraft in Brazil

A serious close encounter occurred between a GOL Boeing 737-800 and an Azul Embraer E195-E2 at Congonhas Airport.

The incident occurred during the final approach of GOL flight #G31629 from Salvador, and while Azul flight #AD6408 was departing. The vertical separation between the two aircraft reportedly dropped to about 22 meters.

Air traffic control intervened, instructing the approaching GOL aircraft to go around. The crew of GOL received a TCAS warning, and after executing a go-around, the plane safely completed its landing, while the Azul aircraft continued with its flight.

So far, no adverse consequences have been reported, with air traffic control’s timely intervention preventing a potential disaster.
