EU Moves to Secure Jet Fuel Supply

The European Union is preparing a new plan to address jet fuel supply risks amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their impact on global energy markets. The plan is expected to be announced on April 22 and will focus on improving the efficient use of Europe’s refinery capacity while safeguarding existing production infrastructure through a continent-wide coordination and mapping mechanism.
Following the crisis in Iran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, jet fuel prices have surged sharply. European airlines have warned of potential short-term supply constraints, with the continent’s heavy reliance on imported jet fuel increasing pressure ahead of the summer season.
The International Energy Agency has projected that, if current supply conditions persist, Europe could face jet fuel shortages by June. Airlines have also indicated that in a worst-case scenario, the situation could lead to flight reductions and rising operational costs.
