Budget Crisis in the U.S. Strains Airport Security

The budget crisis within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has begun directly affecting Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel. The issue was addressed in Congress by senior TSA official Ha Nguyen McNeill, who stated that some employees facing pay disruptions have been forced to take second jobs, while others have reportedly slept in their vehicles.
McNeill warned that if staffing shortages deepen, certain airport security checkpoints may have to close, potentially causing serious disruptions to passenger flow. Security lines at major airports are reportedly growing longer, with workforce losses increasing operational pressure.
If the situation continues, security capacity at some U.S. airports could decline further, and additional operational restrictions may be introduced.
