A passenger in the United States who reportedly bit a flight attendant multiple times has been sentenced to three years of probation, 150 hours of community service, and a temporary flight ban.
The incident occurred on a JetBlue flight operating between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. According to court records, the passenger began behaving aggressively after consuming a large amount of wine at an airport bar prior to boarding.
During the crew’s attempt to intervene, the passenger allegedly bit a flight attendant’s hand several times. After the aircraft took off, the situation reportedly escalated further, with the passenger attempting to break free despite being restrained.
Following the incident, a federal court sentenced the passenger to three years of supervised probation, 150 hours of community service, and a temporary ban on flying.
Under U.S. law, interfering with a flight crew member can carry a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years. However, courts may impose alternative penalties such as probation in cases that do not involve severe physical violence.
