Southwest Airlines will discontinue its flights to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) starting June 4, as part of the airline’s efforts to refine its route network.
According to the company, the change will not significantly affect flight availability in the region. Southwest will continue operating extensive services from Chicago Midway (MDW), as well as Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) and Washington Reagan National (DCA).
The airline noted that Chicago O’Hare operations have remained challenging, while its long-established base at Midway Airport will continue serving more than 80 destinations.
Southwest also stated that frontline employees affected by the changes will have the opportunity to apply for open positions across the airline’s network, including at Midway, Baltimore/Washington, and Reagan National airports.
