Airbus Joins Test Partnership in Singapore for Next-Generation Engine Technologies
Airbus, CFM International, and CAAS have signed an agreement to turn Singapore into a test hub for next-generation aircraft engine technologies. As part of the collaboration, the operational impacts of CFM’s RISE program and Open Fan engine architecture will be examined.
Under the agreement, a preparation model will be developed for integrating Open Fan engines into existing airport operations. This process will assess aircraft design, infrastructure requirements, operational procedures, safety standards, and regulations. In addition, technical and operational knowledge sharing will take place through Singapore’s aviation ecosystem.
Open Fan engine demonstrators from the RISE program are planned to be tested at Singapore Changi or Seletar Airport. The tests will evaluate the technology’s feasibility in a real operational environment.
Airbus stated that this partnership will accelerate the development of next-generation propulsion systems and that the Open Fan architecture, with its goals of lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and lower noise, will play a key role in the future of single-aisle aircraft.
