Boeing Reports New GE9X Engine Issue in 777X Program

Boeing has confirmed a new durability issue with the GE9X turbofan engines used on the 777X program. The problem was found during a recent engine inspection, and Boeing and GE Aerospace engineers are jointly evaluating it.

While technical details weren’t disclosed, Boeing says the issue is not expected to affect the 777-9 certification timeline or the first deliveries planned for 2027. Certification flight tests are ongoing, and the FAA has approved the program to move into its third and most extensive test phase by the end of 2025.

The GE9X and the 777X program have faced several technical delays in the past, but Boeing maintains that the certification process is continuing as planned despite this new finding.
