Air Albania Suspends Flights, License Revoked

Air Albania, 49% of whose shares are owned by Turkish Airlines — which recently announced it would sell its stake — has come to a near standstill in its operations. It has been reported that the Albanian flag carrier has not operated any flights since December 7.

According to the information obtained, all flights on Air Albania’s Milan and Istanbul routes have been canceled. Flight planning data shows that these two routes departing from Tirana International Airport have not been operated in recent days, while travel agencies state that the airline has completely halted operations since Saturday.

The Albanian Civil Aviation Authority has suspended Air Albania’s operating license on the grounds that the airline failed to comply with current regulations. The decision will remain in effect until the company fulfills its obligations.

Founded in 2018, Air Albania began operating as Albania’s flag carrier after the license of Albanian Airlines was revoked. Turkish Airlines, which holds a significant share in the airline’s financial structure, announced in November that it would sell its 49% stake in Air Albania. It is noted that the company has struggled to find new investors following this decision.

The suspension of flights and the revocation of its license have increased uncertainty about Air Albania’s future, while the airline has not yet issued an official bankruptcy announcement.
