Turkey May Seek Compensation from Azimuth Airlines

– Following the hard landing of a Superjet aircraft at Antalya Airport in November 2024, Turkish authorities are reportedly preparing to seek compensation from Russian carrier Azimuth Airlines. The claim would cover firefighting efforts, technical services, and flight disruptions.

– Lawyer Candaş Gürol, representing some passengers onboard, stated that a class action has been filed against Azimuth, alleging fraud and intentional misconduct. He noted that Turkey’s Ministry of Transport is close to concluding its independent investigation, and they intend to take part in the process.

– Azimuth claimed the post-landing fire was due to fuel leakage igniting on the concrete, not a fault within the aircraft. Reports also suggest that asset seizure requests related to the aircraft are under consideration.
