75 Years Since the First Operational Delivery of the Boeing B-47 Stratojet

It has been 75 years since the first operational Boeing B-47 Stratojet bomber was delivered to the United States Air Force. The delivery, which took place on October 23, 1951, marked a significant milestone in the United States’ transition to jet-powered strategic bombers.
Featuring six jet engines, 35-degree swept wings, and a slender fuselage, the B-47 Stratojet was one of the most advanced aircraft of its era. During the Cold War, it became a key component of the U.S. Strategic Air Command (SAC).
The B-47’s aerodynamic design and underwing engine configuration influenced the development of later aircraft, including the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress and Boeing 707. With these innovations, the Stratojet secured its place in aviation history as one of the aircraft that helped shape the evolution of modern commercial jetliners.
