Mario Chaves Appointed New CEO of Azerbaijan Airlines

Azerbaijan Airlines has made a change in its senior management, appointing Mario Chaves as the company’s new CEO.

With more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, Chaves most recently served as Executive Vice President for Operations at TAP Air Portugal.

Chaves began his aviation career in 1995 and joined TAP Air Portugal as a pilot in 1998. He later held a number of senior management positions across the industry, including CEO of Portugalia Airlines, Executive Board Member responsible for Operations and Commercial Affairs at Grupo SATA, and Acting CEO and later Executive Director for Corporate Affairs at Cabo Verde Airlines. He also held senior roles at IATA, focusing on flight operations, regulatory matters and operational efficiency.

Azerbaijan Airlines stated that the appointment forms part of its efforts to support sustainable growth, improve operational performance, enhance the passenger experience and implement international best practices on a broader scale.
