U.S. Embassy Warns Against Travel to Aqaba Airport as Jordan Denies Evacuation Claims

The U.S. Embassy in Amman has issued a security alert concerning King Hussein International Airport and the seaport in Aqaba, southern Jordan.

The embassy claimed that Jordanian authorities had evacuated both the airport and the port due to a “specific and credible threat”, advising U.S. citizens not to travel to either location. The alert also urged Americans to avoid military bases, demonstrations, and large gatherings, follow instructions from local authorities, and contact their airlines directly if their flights were affected.

The Jordanian government, however, denied the embassy’s claim that the airport and port had been evacuated. Government Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Al-Momani said no decision had been made to evacuate either facility and that no potential threat had been identified in recent hours.

Jordanian authorities stated that operations at King Hussein International Airport and the Port of Aqaba are continuing normally without disruption.
