Russian Skydiver Sergey Boytsov Sets Record Jump from Nearly 38,000 Feet

Russian skydiver Sergey Boytsov has set a new world record with a stratospheric jump from a hot air balloon. Boytsov jumped from approximately 37,897 feet (11,551 meters) above Russia’s Altai Krai, surpassing the previous record of 33,005 feet (10,060 meters) held by Polish skydivers.

Before the jump, Boytsov proudly carried the Russian flag as he stepped into the stratosphere. During freefall, he exceeded 310 mph (500 km/h), while the freefall itself lasted around 2 minutes and 30 seconds. He deployed his parachute at approximately 5,135 feet (1,565 meters).

The record-breaking jump was carried out as part of Russia’s State Flag Day celebrations and in support of the International Youth Festival. The hot air balloon used for the mission had a 10,000-cubic-meter envelope and was specially reinforced for high-altitude operations.

With this achievement, Boytsov became the new world record holder for the highest parachute jump ever performed from a hot air balloon.
