Qatar Airways Sued by Family of Teen Who Died on Flight

Qatar Airways is facing a wrongful death lawsuit in the United States after the family of 16-year-old passenger Jason Hu filed a case against the airline and inflight medical support provider MedAire in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Qatar Airways flight QR701 from Doha (DOH) to New York (JFK) on August 21, 2024. Jason Hu, who had severe allergies to peanuts, milk, and fish, was reportedly served a sandwich by the cabin crew after being told it was safe for him to eat. Shortly after consuming the meal, he suffered a severe allergic reaction and experienced difficulty breathing.

The lawsuit further alleges that some of the onboard medical equipment failed to function properly during the emergency. Jason Hu died after the aircraft landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The family is seeking damages, alleging that the airline and MedAire were negligent and that their actions contributed to the teenager’s death.
