Flights Temporarily Suspended at Tocumen International Airport Following Earthquake

Flight operations at Tocumen International Airport have been temporarily suspended and security protocols activated as a precautionary measure following an earthquake in Panama.

According to a statement released by the airport operator, passengers in the terminals were evacuated for precautionary reasons in accordance with established contingency plans, and administrative areas were cleared. Airport personnel guided passengers throughout the evacuation process, while travelers were urged to follow official instructions.

Authorities stated that operations will resume once security and structural assessments of the airport facilities and control tower services are completed. Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport and to follow updates through official channels.

Runways Closed via NOTAM, Inbound Aircraft Faces Fuel Criticality

Following the tremor, both runways at the airport were closed to all departures and arrivals through an issued NOTAM. Aircraft that had taxied out for departure prior to the shutdown were held on the ground, leaving departure schedules uncertain.

The closure of the airfield directly impacted inbound air traffic. Operating the Bogota to Panama City route, Copa Airlines flight CM416 squawked 7700 emergency code due to landing suspensions and potential low fuel levels.
