Embraer and Saab Sign Agreement for Production of 20 Additional Gripen Fighters in Brazil
Embraer and Swedish defense company Saab have signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) covering the production of an additional 20 Gripen fighter aircraft in Brazil.
Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, the agreement provides for the aircraft to be assembled at Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto facility in the state of São Paulo. The site is home to the only Gripen final assembly line outside Sweden and will complement Saab’s production line in Linköping.
The two companies aim to finalize the agreement during 2026. The additional production capacity is intended to help meet growing global demand for the Gripen fighter aircraft.
Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, said the agreement further strengthens the trusted partnership built over the past decade and added that Embraer is ready to support increased production should demand continue to grow.
Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson said the agreement reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to Latin America while creating additional production capacity to meet future customer requirements.
The Gripen partnership between Embraer and Saab also includes technology transfer and personnel training under the Brazilian Air Force program. As part of the collaboration, numerous Brazilian engineers, technicians, and test pilots have received training in Sweden, gaining expertise in advanced aerospace technologies.
