Boeing Cleared in LOT Polish Airlines Lawsuit

A federal jury in Seattle, United States, has ruled that Boeing did not fraudulently conceal safety issues related to 737 MAX aircraft sold to LOT Polish Airlines over the past decade.

LOT Polish Airlines had accused Boeing of hiding critical changes made to the flight control systems of the 737 MAX aircraft. Those changes were linked to two fatal Boeing 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that claimed a total of 346 lives, leading to the worldwide grounding of the aircraft type for nearly 20 months.

The Polish carrier had sought $153 million in damages from Boeing, citing losses caused by the grounding of its fleet.

However, the jury rejected claims that Boeing intentionally concealed safety concerns and ruled in favor of the manufacturer. The decision marked a legal victory for Boeing in the compensation lawsuit filed by LOT Polish Airlines.
