An American Airlines flight bound for Bermuda aborted its takeoff after a business jet entered the active runway at Miami International Airport. The two aircraft reportedly came within approximately 530 meters of each other.
The incident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. local time on Saturday. Flight AA308 had been cleared for takeoff when the crew spotted another aircraft on the runway and rejected the takeoff.
According to air traffic control recordings, the controller advised the pilot of NetJets Flight EJA434 that the aircraft had crossed an active runway. The pilot responded that they believed they had been instructed to cross, while the controller clarified that the clearance had actually been issued to Amerijet Flight 461.
NetJets later confirmed that operational control of the business jet had been delegated to a third-party maintenance provider at the time of the incident.
American Airlines praised its flight crew for their prompt response, adding that the aircraft later departed safely for Bermuda. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate the runway incursion.
