Airbus and Lufthansa Group Mark 50 Years of Partnership at ILA Berlin Air Show

Airbus and Lufthansa Group have marked the 50th anniversary of their partnership during the opening of the ILA Berlin Air Show, highlighting a collaboration that dates back to Lufthansa’s introduction of its first Airbus A300 in 1976.

The two companies stated that Lufthansa Group is expected to receive its 700th Airbus aircraft later this year, reflecting the long-standing relationship between the European aircraft manufacturer and one of its largest airline customers.

As part of the event, Airbus and Lufthansa Group also announced a new agreement covering component support services for the Lufthansa Group’s Airbus A220 fleet. The agreement is intended to improve operational efficiency across the group’s airlines.

The companies additionally highlighted ongoing cooperation in sustainability initiatives, including the application of Airbus’ SharkSkin surface technology on Airbus A330 aircraft. The coating is designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and lower fuel consumption.

Over the past five decades, Lufthansa Group has taken delivery of more Airbus aircraft from Airbus production facilities in Toulouse and Hamburg than any other airline group. Lufthansa has also played a role as a launch customer for several Airbus aircraft programs.

The anniversary was celebrated during ILA 2026, with both companies emphasizing their continued cooperation in aircraft technology development and the future of European aviation.
