Temporary Air Force One Prepared for Trump

A temporary presidential aircraft solution for Donald Trump is taking shape. A former Qatari Boeing 747-8I VIP aircraft has completed flight tests following an extensive modernization process.

Developed under the “VC-25B Bridge” program, the aircraft will serve as an interim solution to support the current U.S. presidential fleet amid delays in the main VC-25B program.

The aircraft, transferred to the United States, has undergone major upgrades to meet presidential transport requirements, including the integration of new communication systems and various operational enhancements. After completing testing, the aircraft has been sent for repainting ahead of its planned entry into service in summer 2026.

Designated as the “VC-25B Bridge Aircraft,” it is expected to supplement the aging VC-25A fleet, which has been in service since the 1990s.

However, it remains unclear whether the aircraft will feature the full range of advanced defense and mission systems found on a standard Air Force One. Capabilities such as aerial refueling and electromagnetic pulse protection may be limited, meaning the aircraft is likely to be used primarily for temporary and restricted missions.

The Bridge program is intended to fill the gap between the retirement of older aircraft and the delivery of next-generation VC-25B aircraft, expected to enter service between 2027 and 2028.
