IATA Warns of Prolonged Jet Fuel Supply Disruptions

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran will not be enough to restore global jet fuel supply conditions in the short term. According to IATA, it may take months for the supply chain to return to pre-crisis stability.
In its assessment, IATA noted that the disruption during the closure of the strait affected not only crude oil shipments, but also the distribution of refined fuel products. In particular, deviations in refinery production schedules, changes in tanker routing, and congestion at ports have all created lasting impacts across the jet fuel supply chain.
IATA stated that jet fuel availability is unlikely to normalize immediately and stressed that the ongoing disruption could directly affect airlines’ operational planning in the coming months.
