GTF Crisis Deepens Between Airbus and Pratt & Whitney

Tensions are escalating between European aircraft manufacturer Airbus and U.S.-based engine maker Pratt & Whitney due to ongoing supply issues affecting the PW1000G engine family. Industry sources indicate that the long-discussed dispute could move into legal proceedings.
Technical problems with Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engines have left approximately 800 aircraft grounded worldwide as of the end of 2025. The crisis is now affecting not only airline operations but also aircraft production. Airbus’ inability to secure the required engine deliveries has led to delays, particularly within the A320neo and A321neo programs.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury openly stated that engine supply disruptions are negatively impacting the company’s delivery plans and financial performance. As a result, Airbus has lowered its 2026 delivery target from above 900 aircraft to around 870. The goal of reaching a monthly production rate of 75 aircraft has also been postponed to 2027.
