Delta Expands Bluetooth Pairing

U.S. carrier Delta Air Lines has expanded its testing of Bluetooth headphone connectivity across additional aircraft types, signaling a broader rollout of wireless audio within its inflight entertainment systems. The airline aims to move beyond limited installations and introduce the feature across a larger portion of its fleet.

Until recently, Bluetooth connectivity was available primarily on select Airbus A321neo aircraft and largely confined to premium cabins. With the latest trials, some Boeing 767 aircraft have also been brought into the program. The move is part of a wider software upgrade designed to extend Delta’s “Delta Sync” seatback interface to more widebody jets.

Delta has previously noted that retrofitting older inflight entertainment systems with Bluetooth capability presents both technical and cost-related challenges. The ongoing trials are understood to focus on building a scalable hardware and software foundation that would allow for a more sustainable and fleet-wide implementation.

Looking ahead, Delta plans to introduce next-generation 4K seatback screens with integrated Bluetooth capability in every cabin on newly delivered aircraft. Future Airbus A321neo and Airbus A350-1000 deliveries are expected to feature the updated systems, while modernization efforts are also being considered for select existing widebody aircraft.

The initiative forms part of Delta’s broader strategy to enhance passenger experience and further personalize onboard digital services. Wider availability of wireless headphone pairing is expected to improve comfort, particularly on long-haul flights, by allowing passengers to use their own devices seamlessly with the seatback entertainment system.
